The Decalogue or Ten Commandments given to Moses by God

1. I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have other gods.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain

3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day

4. Honor thy father and thy mother

5. Thou shalt not kill

6. Thou shalt not commit adultery

7. Thou shalt not steal

8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor

9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods.

Precepts or commandments of the Church (220)

1. Attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation

2. Avoid unnecessary and inappropriate work on such days

3. Regular sacramental life (Easter duty: Communion at Easter time,

confession once a year)

4. Observe the marriage laws of the Church

5. Strengthen and support the Church

6. Do penance at the appointed times (e.g. Lent).

The two Great Commandments of Jesus Christ (Mt 22:39; Jn 13:34)

summarize the Law and the Prophets:

1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart

2. Love your neighbor as yourself
