PRAYERS

                                            SIGN OF THE CROSS

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

                                 OUR FATHER   (PATER NOSTER)

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name,

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

                                      HAIL MARY   (AVE MARIA)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners

now, and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

                              PRAYER TO THE BLESSED TRINITY

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.  Amen.

                                       THE APOSTLE’S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth

and in Jesus Christ His only Son Our Lord

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried

He descended into hell, the third day He rose again from the dead

He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty

thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  Amen.

                                            THE NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

Eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten not made, one in being with the Father.

Through Him all things were made.  For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit

He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered, died, and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures;

He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.

He has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

                                                           THE CONFITEOR

          I confess to Almighty God,

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have sinned through my own fault,

                   (strike the breast)

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what l have done, and in what I have failed to do;

and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin,

all the angels and saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May Almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.  Amen.

                             PRAYER (or GRACE) BEFORE MEALS

Bless us our Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy

bounty, through Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

                              PRAYER (or GRACE) AFTER MEALS

We give thee thanks for all thy benefits, O Almighty God, who livest and

reignest forever.  May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

rest in peace.  Amen.

ONE FORM OF THE ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God I am heartily sorry for having offended thee,

and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments,

but most of all because I have offended Thee,

my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to do penance,

to sin no more, and to avoid the near occasions of sin.  Amen.

                                                              THE ANGELUS

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,

and she was conceived of the Holy Spirit; (say a Hail Mary).

Behold the handmaid of the Lord!

be it done unto me according to thy word; (say a Hail Mary).

And the Word was made flesh,

and dwelt among us;  (say a Hail Mary).

                                           MORNING OFFERING

O Jesus, through the immaculate heart of Mary

I offer Thee all my prayers, works and sufferings of this day

for the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart,

in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,

in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of the Pope,

of all our associates, and in particular for ...... Amen.

                                   PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIX

Look down upon me, O good and gentle Jesus

while before Thy face I humbly kneel,

and with burning soul I pray and beseech Thee to fix deep in my heart

lively sentiments of Faith, Hope and Charity,

true forgiveness for my sins,

and a firm purpose of amendment;

while I contemplate with great love and tender pity Thy five wounds,

pondering over them, and calling to mind the words

which David, thy prophet, said of Thee O my Jesus:

"They have pierced my hands and my feet;

they have numbered all my bones".

                            HAIL, HOLY QUEEN  (SALVE REGINA)

Hail, holy queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope!

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;

to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears

Turn, then, O most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;

and after this our exile, show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary

Pray for us O most holy mother of God

that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

(Prior to the Second Vatican Council this prayer was said at the end of Mass)

St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil.

Restrain him, O God, we humbly beseech thee,

and do thou, Prince of the heavenly host, by the divine power,

drive into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits

who roam about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen.
